History

The City of Hapeville was awarded the 2004-2005 Atlanta Regional Commission Award for Excellence in Education. The Hapeville Charter Schools came into being because of the desire of the Hapeville citizenry to return excellence in education to local, neighborhood schools.

Georgia Magnet Charter Schools Foundation, Corp. was founded by Dr. Gary Martin in 2004, beginning with Hapeville Charter Middle School (HCMS), with 177 students in 6th grade, expanding to a full 6th – 8th grade student body by the end of the 2006-2007 School Year.

Hapeville Charter Career Academy (HCCA) opened with 9th grade in 2009, expanding to a full 9th – 12th grade student body, graduating its first class in 2013. HCCA was one of the first five career academies to receive a Georgia Career Academy Grant initiative through the Lt. Governor’s Office in coordination with the Technical College System of Georgia.

Since its inception in 2004, Hapeville Charter Schools has actively associated itself with community business leaders in the South Fulton County area. These partners have helped to ensure the schools educational approach supports the needs of the community and that the student’s educational experience is current and relevant with emerging economic needs.

Hapeville Charter Middle School (HCMS) and Hapeville Charter Career Academy (HCCA) are each accredited by Cognia (formerly AdvancED), a Title I School operating as a part of Fulton County School System.
